John Darrell Hemphill, age 71, died July 28, 2009 at his residence in Columbus, MS. Funeral services will be Friday, July 31, 2009 at 1:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John "PJ" Mortensen officiating. A graveside committal service will follow at 3:30 PM at Crystal Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery near Louisville, MS. Visitation will be Thursday, July 30, 2009 from 5:00-8:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Home. Mr. Hemphill was born November 23, 1937 in Louisville, MS to the late Herbert and Edna Sullivan Hemphill. Mr. Hemphill and his family moved to the Columbus, MS area in 1959, and he was currently working as an auto mechanic for Stokes Express Lube. He worked for a number of years for Fletcher Motor Company and was a member of the Miss-Ala Hunting Club. Mr. Hemphilll loved God and the outdoors and enjoyed farming, hunting, and spending time with his grandson. He was preceded in death by a brother, Pearson Hemphill. Mr. Hemphill is survivied by his wife of 48 years, Helen H. Hemphill of Columbus, daughter, Vickie Hemphill of Columbus, grandson, Jairus Hemphill of Columbus, brother, Sherrell (Martha) Hemphill of Columbus, sisters, Neva (Barry) Roy of Hudson, FL, Dean Conn, Wallene (Dave) Lease, and Faye (Linwood) Hughes of Ethelsville, AL and his beloved nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Mark Stokes, Les Lackey, Bo Holman, Joe Holman, Terry Brumley, Charles Bush, and Larry Richardson. Honorary pallbearers are Tom Jaynes, Jamie Suddeth, Chuck Anderson, and all members of the Miss-Ala Hunting Club.
