Kathryn Kat Wiggers Ridgeland Mary Kathryn Kat Kerr Wiggers (91) passed away peacefully Friday morning at the Arbor Nursing Home in Ridgeland with family by her side. As her son Gray commented, it was like Dad was calling her home for Valentines Day. She was a native of Louisville, Mississippi. She graduated from the Mississippi University of Women with degrees in Library Science and Secretarial Sciences. She held several jobs during her life, having worked for the Mississippi House of Representatives the longest, as the family lived in Jackson at the time. She met the love of her life, Richard G. Dick Wiggers, at a dance at the Hotel Heidelberg Roof being introduced by their common friend The Hon. Sonny Montgomery. They lived in Indianola for a short time after being married and moved to Jackson to live from 1955 to 1967 when they moved to Columbus, Mississippi. She moved to the Orchard Retirement Community just after the death of her husband in January 2008. They were married sixty years. As a cancer survivor for several years, she did not get out in the community too often. For many years she read nearly a book a day. Her best friend, Mog Lyons, said of her, We were best friends for over fifty years. We were always there for each other. As our children grew up, she would call and say my bags are packed, plan a trip and off wed go. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, two sisters and a brother. She is survived by her daughters, Ann DeWeese (AB), Dane Dean and son Gray Wiggers (Bonnie), eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Grandsons will be poll bearers. Services will be held at the Sebrell Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday with visitation at 1:00 p.m. Graveside services will be held Monday February 17, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Friendship Cemetery in Columbus. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be made to the Richard G. Wiggers Endowed Risk Management Scholarship Fund at Mississippi State University, Post Office Box 6149, Mississippi State, MS 39762 or to the Palmer Home in Columbus at Post Office Box 746, Columbus, MS 39703. The family wishes to thank the many medical and personal caregivers who so graciously tended to her needs over the past years.
