Porter Kennedy Jaynes, Jr., 82, died Sunday, April 21, 2013 at Baptist Memorial Healthcare Golden Triangle in Columbus. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at Memorial Funeral Home from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The funeral service will be Thursday, April 25, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Sammy Crawford officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Friendship Cemetery. The son of the late Porter Kennedy and Della Easley Jaynes, Mr. Jaynes was born May 1, 1930 in Columbus. He was in the Air Force and was honorably discharged in June, 1950 with the rank of sergeant, only to be called back to active duty during the Berlin Airlift. He was the founder and president of United Propane Gas in Sulligent, AL; he served twice as President of Green Oaks Golf Club and was instrumental in the rebuilding of the Clubhouse after a total fire loss in the late 1980's. An avid golfer with eight holes in one over the years, he played almost daily at the Columbus County Club, Green Oaks Golf Club and lastly at Elm Lake Golf Club where he resided. He attended Fairview Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife Jean Garner Jaynes of Columbus, his sons Ken Jaynes of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Mark Jaynes (Cindy) of Atlanta, GA, his daughter Pam Jaynes Robinson of Columbus and his brother Samuel Lewis Jaynes of Aberdeen. He is also survived by his grandchildren Kelsey Jaynes, Payten Jaynes, Laura Thompson Hutchinson (Landon), Lindsey Jaynes, Austin Jaynes, Hannah Robinson and Sara Robinson and twelve nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Sam Jaynes, Jr, Payten Jaynes, Austin Jaynes, Sonny Casmus, Mike Rooker, and Mike Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Willie Menotti, Homer Swain, Tom Cooley, Joe Heatherly, Larry Scott, James Carruth, George Renacker and the Staff of Elm Lake Golf Club. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Palmer Home for Children, P.O. Box 746, Columbus, MS 39703.
