Mrs. Marilyn Greene Leonard, of Columbus, MS, died Nov. 3, 2010, in Tupelo, MS at North Mississippi Medical Center. Visitation will be held at Memorial Funeral Home in Columbus Friday, Nov. 5, 2010 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 6, 2010 at 11:00 AM at First United Methodist Church in Columbus, with Rev. Anne Russell Bradley and Rev.Tony Proctor officiating. Interment will follow in Sturgis, MS at Morgan Chapel Cemetery, with Rev. Ron McDougald officiating. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Funeral Home in Columbus. Marilyn was born in Gulfport, MS., August 12, 1951, to the late Mr. and Mrs. James Robert and Mary Alice Morgan Greene. Marilyn grew up in Little Rock, AR., and later graduated from the University of Arkansas in Little Rock. She then earned a Masters Degree in Speech Pathology from Mississippi University for Women in Columbus, MS While she was earning her higher degree, Marilyn met and married Mark Hampton Leonard, with whom she would spend the final 32 years of her life. Marilyn is survived by her husband, Mark, her children Charlsie Leonard, Will Leonard, Wade and Ginny Leonard and her grandson Mark L. Leonard all of Columbus. She also leaves behind her older brother Terry Greene (Sally) of Little Rock, AR.; her uncle Mr. William Greene (Ann) of Starkville, MS ;and her aunt Mrs. Charlsie Bixler of Sturgis, MS. For more than 30 years, Marilyn served in the Columbus and Lowndes County school systems as a speech pathologist. During the final year of her life she worked in the Pickens County, Ala. School System. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. The duties of Pallbearer will be served by Judge David Wilson of Louisville, MS; Senator Terry Brown, Mr. Jim Nowicki, and Mr. Fred Hayslett, all of Columbus; Mr. Ronnie Montford of Tallahassee, FL.; Mr. Scott Greene of Little Rock;, AR and Mr. Chuck Morgan and Mr. Ed Morgan, both of Atlanta, GA. The family wishes to recognize honorary pallbearers as follows: the New Hope Elementary School staff; Speech Teachers of Pickens County, Ala.; the WW Social Club and all the friends and family who helped care for Marilyn during her final days.
