Catherine Vogt Spitler age 93 died Monday, November 30, 2009 at The Arrington in Columbus. Services will be held Thursday, December 03, 2009 at 11:00 AM from Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Black officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Columbus, MS. Visitation will be held at the funeral home one hour prior to service. Mrs. Spitler was born on Wednesday, November 15, 1916 in Cleveland Ohio, to the late Cornelius D. and Lettie Rice Vogt. Her family moved to Columbus in 1954. She was a member of St. Stephens United Methodist Church, where she participated in the Womens Circle. She was also a member of the Senior Volunteer Band, the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and a life member of the Columbus Chapter #66 Order of the Eastern Star. She graduated for Mississippi University for Women at the age of 69. She was a Girl Scout Leader, a Boy Scout Den Mother, volunteered for the American Red Cross and Contact Crisis Center. She was an RSVP director and responsible for acquiring the Dial-A-Bus program. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Glenn Hunter Spitler, and her daughter Dr. Diane Louise Spitler. Survivors include her son Glenn Douglas "Skip" Spitler, Columbus, MS and her sister Betty Porman Cleveland, OH. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Unity Hospice Care 3085 Fountainside Dr. Germantown, TN 38138
