HELEN HANKINS Helen Hankins, age 89, passed away Sunday, November 24, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Golden Triangle in Columbus, MS. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 26 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Home. Services will be held Wednesday, November 27 at 11:00 AM at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Ray officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Columbus. Memorial Funeral Home of Columbus is entrusted with the arrangements. Mrs. Hankins was born January 31, 1924, in Lamar County, Alabama to the late Dewey and Geneva Brown Livingston and attended Lamar County schools and graduated from Lamar County High School. She moved to Columbus with her husband Ray in the late 1940s. She was a current member of McBee Baptist Church and former member of both Immanuel and East End Baptist Churches where she served in many capacities including Sunday school teacher, WMU officer, and alto in the adult choir. She took great pride in serving as a homemaker and taking care of her family. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, and preserving vegetables from her garden. Her loving smile and subtle wit were enjoyed by all she came in contact with. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, particularly her six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of sixty eight years Ray Hankins, her sisters Evelyn Hankins and Marie Rowland, and her brother Joe Livingston. Survivors include two sons: Tony Hankins (Mary) of Hoover, Alabama, and Reggie Hankins (Fran) of Columbus, Mississippi. Grandchildren: Wesley Hankins, Bessemer, Alabama; Jason Hankins and Sarah Hankins, both of Hoover, Alabama; Bethany Schouest (Peyton) of Summerville, South Carolina; Cara Sims (Jeff) of Walnut Grove, Mississippi; and Craig Bledsoe (fianc Amber Presley) of Columbus, Mississippi. Five great grandchildren: Ryan Sims; Ethan, Riley, Caroline, and Scarlett Schouest. Pallbearers will be: Wesley Hankins, Jason Hankins, Craig Bledsoe, Jeff Sims, Peyton Schouest, Howard Hankins, Dewey Hankins, and Harry Rowland. Honorary pallbearers will be: Senior Womens Sunday school class of McBee Baptist Church, Charles and Mary Ann Stafford and Buford and Betty Crowe.
