Annie Lou "Dolly" Langford Burkes, age 89, of Columbus, Miss., died Saturday, May 24, 2008, at Aurora Australis Lodge in Columbus, Miss. Arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Funeral Home . Visitation will be held Monday evening from 6:00pm-8:00pm at the funeral home. Her funeral service will be in the chapel of Memorial Funeral Home at 1:00 PM Tuesday, May 27, 2008, with Rev. Sammy Crawford officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Columbus, Miss. She was the daughter of the late Lonnie and Annie Adams Langford and was born May 19, 1919 in Kennedy, Al. "Dolly ", as she was affectionately known, was preceded in death by her husband, George Henry Burkes and her daughter, Mary Louise Strickland. She is survived by her son, Tony Burkes (Reta) of Charlotte, N.C. her sister, Ruby Lynch of Kentucky, her brother, Titum Langford of Columbus, Miss., three grandsons, Tim, Eddie and Scott Strickland, all of Columbus, two granddaughters, Jo Ann Peacock of Columbus and Summer Burkes of Oakland, Ca., nine great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by Brenda Sudduth whom she reared through childhood as her own daughter. She will be greatly missed and remembered for her outstanding generosity to anyone who needed help either materially or emotionally and her deep love for her children. May God hold her close to his bosom until we meet her again in Heaven. Her great grandchildren will serve as her pallbearers. .
