Marion Sims Dampeer, age 74, died Monday, June 14, 2010 at Baptist Memorial Hospital- Golden Triangle in Columbus. Services will be held Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Bobby Douglas and Dr. Shawn Parker officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held from noon until service time Wednesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Dampeer was born on Sunday, August 25, 1935 in Bay Springs, MS to the late Nonnie and Christine Morgan Sims. Mrs. Dampeer and her husband, the Rev. Charles R. Dampeer, were married for 54 years and during that time lived in several different cities in Mississippi and Illinois , where he served as a Baptist minister. She graduated from Nursing school in Jackson and worked as a LPN before returning to college. She attended William Carey University in Hattiesburg and graduated from Whitworth College in Brookhaven with a degree in education. She then taught 3rd grade for many years, retiring in 1990. She was active in WMU and the Illinois Baptist Association and had been a member of First Baptist Church, since moving to Columbus 15 years ago. She is survived by her husband Rev. Charles R. Dampeer of Columbus MS and her three children Marsha Cosby (Dr. Walter Cosby), Columbus, MS, Cindy Bolin (Kent), Covington, LA and Charlie Dampeer (Donna), Pontotoc, MS. She is also survived by her sisters Betty Jane Hart, Anna Jewel Brown, Charlotte Salpaw and Hilda Jean Bowman and and a brother Van Sims; and six grandchildren Nate Cosby, Callee Cosby, Brooks Dampeer, Blair Dampeer, Baylor Dampeer and Breck Bolin. The Pallbearers will be Harry Cosby, Cole Cosby, Nate Cosby, Brooks Dampeer, Baylor Dampeer and Breck Bolin.
