GENE GJERDE Eugene R. "Gene" Gjerde Age 72 died April 28, 2008 at Baptist Memorial Hospital Golden Triangle. Services will be held at Columbus Air Force Base Chapel on Friday, May 2, 2008 at 11:00 AM with Chaplin Rick Montoya Officiating Visitation will be at Memorial Funeral Home on Thursday, May 1, 2008 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Full military honors will follow the service. Mr. Gjerde was born on April 23, 1936 in Crystal Lake Iowa to the late Lloyd T. Gjerde and Florence Bergman Knapper. He was a 1954 graduate of Woden High School in Woden Iowa. He served in the U.S. Air Force from January 1955 until his retirement in August of 1977, and served in the Vietnam War. After his military service he worked at various maintenance jobs at Columbus Air Force Base,attended the base chapel. In addition to his father he was preceded in death by his brother Gregg Gjerde, and his son-in-law Doug Jones. survivors include: Wife-Judy L. Gjerde of Columbus, Miss. Daughter-Julie Jones of Tupelo MS Son-Curtis Gjerde (Lisa) of Caledonia, Miss. Mother-Florence Knapper of Britt, IA Brother-Lloyd M. Gjerde (Alice) of Altoona, IA Brother-Ronald K. Gjerde (Judy) of Billings, Mo. Sister-Jody Burma (Bill) of Woden, IA Brother-In-Law-John T. Gerdes (Lori) of Franklin, Tenn. Grandchildren, Hannah Gjerde, Nathan Cunningham, and Kristin Cunningham United States Air Force Honor Guard will serve as pallbearers Memorials can be made to donor's choice
