John Albert Carmack, 96, formerly of Millport, AL died Friday, February 11, 2011 at Generations of Vernon, Vernon, AL. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 12:00 PM, Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at First Baptist Church, Steens, Ms. The funeral service, officiated by the Rev. Bryant Benton and Rev. Jonathan Elliott, will be at 2:00 PM. Burial, with military honors, will immediately follow in Millport City Cemetery, Millport, AL. The son of the late John Robert and Minnie Johnson Carmack, Mr. Carmack was born August 30, 1914 in Fayette, AL and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1943. A veteran of WWII, he served in the Co. G, 222nd Infantry Regiment as a MP in Central Europe. He retired as a crane operator after 34 years of employment with Kerr-McGee. He was an active member of First Baptist Church, Steens, Ms for many years. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by four sisters Linnie Brickhouse, Virgie Usadus, Velma Campbell and Mary Sparks. He is survived by his wife Dorothy R. Carmack, Fayette, AL; step-sons Warren Robinson (Ava) and Jerry Robinson (Shelia), both of Millport, AL; step- daughters Jo Anne Foster (Andy) of Millport, Cindy Irvin (David) of Vernon, AL and a brother Brooks Carmack of Spokane, WA. He is also survived by six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Earnest Campbell, Jesse Campbell, Paul Campbell, Wayne Baines, Lee Younger and Mitchell Thornton.
