Frances Strickland Stinson

FRANCES S. STINSON - Frances Strickland Stinson, age 88, of West Memphis, AR, formerly of Columbus, MS, died January 10, 2010, at her nephew's residence in West Memphis, AR. Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 12, 2010, at 2:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Albert Gore officiating. The interment will immediately follow at Friendship Cemetery. Visitation will also be Tuesday, January 12, 2010, one hour prior to the service at Memorial Funeral Home. Mrs. Stinson was born November 29, 1921, in Reform, AL to the late S. S. and Elma Orr Strickland. She was a graduate of Pickens County High School, moved to Columbus in 1942, and soon thereafter began working at the Lowndes County Courthouse. On June 15, 2009, Mrs. Stinson retired from the Lowndes County Tax Assessor / Collector's Office after 63 years of service. She received many honors for her dedicated work in the Courthouse by the Lowndes County Board of Supervisors and Greg Andrews, Tax Assessor / Collector with special recognition by the Mississippi Legislature for her extended Mississippi public service. Mrs. Stinson was a member of the Central United Methodist Church and was preceded in death by her parents, husband, T. W. Stinson, Jr., and sister Nannie Strickland Wright (Leo). Survivors include her nephews, Charles D. Wright of Memphis, TN, and Harold "Gene" Wright of Madison, AL, great nephews, Brad and Andy Wright of Memphis, TN, and Harold Wright, Jr. of West Chester, OH. Pallbearers will be Tommy Shockley, John Gilmer, Don Gilmer, Hoyt Cantrell, Allen Cantrell, and Mike Putnam. Memorials may be made to the Central United Methodist Church 1201 College St. Columbus, MS 39701.
