James Thomas Kitchens

James Thomas Kitchens, 63, of Corinth, MS completed his earthly journey surrounded by family and friends on Saturday, August 26, 2006, at Baptist Memorial Hospital - Golden Triangle. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 29, 2006, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Corinthian Funeral Home in Corinth, Mississippi. Memorial Funeral Home of Columbus, MS is responsible for local arrangements. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, August 30, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at Little Flock Primitive Baptist Church in Burnsville, MS with Brother Bob Ward officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Studdards Cross Roads, AL at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday with Brother Charles Kitchens officiating. Mr. Kitchens was born January 11, 1943 in Columbus, MS to the late Lloyd V. and Tezzie Kitchens of Caledonia, MS. He was a retired US Army Master Sergeant having served his country in Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand during the Vietnam War. He commenced his 24-year military service by enlisting in the US Navy at the age of seventeen and served aboard a ship that blockaded Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis. His long and distinguished military career took him and his family all across the United States and the World. Upon retiring from the military, he returned to his beloved Mississippi where he worked for World Color Printing in Corinth, MS. He belonged to the Disabled American Veterans, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He was a member of Little Flock Primitive Baptist Church in Burnsville, MS. He loved spending time with his family and also enjoyed attending college football games at MSU. Mr. Kitchens was preceded in death by his parents Lloyd and Tezzie Kitchens and his brother Staff Sergeant Harry M. Kitchens all of Caledonia, MS. Mr. Kitchens is survived by his sweetheart and wife of 44 years, Carol J. Kitchens of Caledonia; daughter, Kimberly (Robbie) Freshour, Dallas, GA; sons, Judge James T. (Jo Ann) Kitchens, Jr., Caledonia, MS, and Harry Moss (Kimberly) Kitchens, Munford, TN, and Christopher (Kimi) Kitchens, Ripley, MS; brother, John (Sherry) Kitchens, Collierville, TN; sisters, Elna (John) Williams, Warner Robbins, GA, and Charlette (Richard) Hart, Lewiston, ID, and Karen (Dan) Gibbs, Bossier City, LA; grandchildren, Walton Freshour and Houston Freshour of Dallas, GA and Caleb Kitchens and Carson Kitchens of Ripley, MS; in-laws, Betty Black, Knoxville, TN, Mary (Manuel) De La Rocha, Farragut, TN, Margaret (John) Tatum, Monticello, FL Deanna (Donnie) Parker, Knoxville, TN, Clifford Black, Knoxville, TN, Kyle (Jo Ann) Black, Greenback, TN; and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins. Pallbearers will be Robbie Freshour, Jonathon Kitchens, David Hollis, James Emery, Johnny Williams and Derek Kitchens. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bryan Conner, Judge Lee Howard, Dr. Julian Hill, Dr. David Chase, Forrest Allgood, Steve Wallace and the Deacons at Little Flock Primitive Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, the Palmer Home for Children in Columbus, MS or a charity of the donors choice.
