Stephen D Carter

The Rev. Father Stephen D. Carter, SSC. Age 79, Episcopal priest, died Friday, August 25,2005 at Aurora Australis Nursing Home in Columbus, MS. Memorial services will be conducted by the Rev. James F. Carlyle and the Rev. Jeff W. Reich at St. Pauls Episcopal Church Wednesday, August 30 at 2:00 pm with visitation one hour prior to the service. The Rt. Rev. Jack L. Iker SSC and the Very Rev. Christopher T. Cantrell SSC will conduct requiem services on Friday, September 1 at 11:00 am at Church of the Holy Apostles in Forth Worth. Father Carter was born October 19, 1926 in Galveston, TX to the late Sanford and Daisy Kuiper Carter. He was a graduate of the University of Texas in Austin and earned a Master of Divinity from General Seminary in New York City. He was ordained Deacon on June 29, 1953 and Priest on July 16, 1954 by the Rt. Rev. Clinton Simon Quinn, Bishop of the Diocese of Texas. He served churches in the Dioceses of Texas, Dallas, Mississippi, and Fort Worth before retiring in 1991. He served in the army in Korea from 1945-1947. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Sanford, Jr. of Houston, TX and sister, Emily Wyatt of Hitchcock, TX. He is survived by his wife, Mollie, son, Stephen, Jr. (Terri) of Forth Worth, TX two daughters, Cathy (Earl) Haliburton of Arlington, TX and Sharon (Mark) of Columbus, MS. seven grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to The Episcopal Diocese of Fort Worth for Northern Malawi.
