W.G. BIT THOMPSON William Grady "Bit" Thompson Sr. Age 84 died May 19, 2009 at Baptist Memorial Hospital Golden Triangle in Columbus.. Services will be held at Crawford United Methodist Church on Thursday, May 21, 2009 at 2:00 PM With Dr. Walt Porter Officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Limb Cemetery in Crawford. Visitation will be at Memorial Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 20, 2009 from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM Mr. Thompson was born on January 16, 1925 in Mayhew to the late Talton N. and Sammie Thompson. He was a member of Crawford United Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII from 1943 until 1946 achieving the rating of Motor Machinist Mate First Class. Serving mostly in the South Pacific and the Phillipine Islands Mr. Thompson served for 24 years on the Lowndes County Board of Supervisors and six of those years as it's president. He also farmed with his son Grady. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife Edna Ruth Thompson, his brothers, T.N. Thompson Jr., James Thompson, Carlton Thompson, and Jerry Thompson, his sisters Dora Von Kanel, Bonnie Cooper, and Jean Ervin. Survivors include: Wife-Joanie Thompson of Columbus, Miss. Daughter-Terry Hunter (Walter) of Birmingham, AL Son-Grady Thompson of Crawford, Miss. Sister-Evelyn East (John) of Columbus, Miss. Grandchildren -Scott Thompson -Haley Thompson -Kaci Thompson -Austin Bragg -Kayla Hunter Great grandchild-A.J.
