Dorothy Dunn Carr

Dorothy Dunn Carr, formerly of Columbus, passed away Monday, August 31, 2009 at Cantrell's Personal Care Home in Starkville. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Thursday, September 3, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Starkville, MS followed by the memorial service at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of First Baptist Church Starkville, with The Rev. Clifton Curtis officiating. Burial will take place at a later date. The daughter of William Wallace and Lottye McDearman Dunn, Mrs. Carr was born February 21, 1926 in Jackson, TN. In addition to her parents, She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years James William (Bill) Carr, son Gregory Dunn Carr, granddaughter Courtney Inmon, and brother W. Wallace Dunn of Springfield, MO. Mrs. Carr graduated from Halls High School, in Halls, TN and attended Union University, in Jackson, TN. The Carr family moved from Memphis, TN to Columbus in 1956. She joined First Baptist Church Starkville when she moved there in 2006, after previously being a member of First Baptist Church, Columbus for over 50 years. She was also a life member of the Columbus Junior Auxiliary. She is survived by her daughters Jamie C. (Jerry) Inmon and Kay Arnett (David) Parvin, both of Starkville, MS; grandchildren Will (Stephanie Atkins-Arnett) Arnett, Brian Arnett, Carrie A. (Joe) Couvillion of Starkville, Jennifer I. (Sean) Sullivan of Olive Branch, MS and Julie I. (Austin) Powe of Wiggins, MS; great grandchildren: Camille and Josh Arnett, Xan Atkins-Arnett, Owen and Kate Couvillion of Starkville; niece Nancy Dunn (Gordon) Thomas of Knoxville, TN and nephew Bill Dunn of Springfield, MO; special cousin that she lived with from age 7 Jean H. Hansford of Halls, TN and her children. Memorials in Mrs. Carr's name may be made to the UMC Childrens Cancer Fund, c/o Department of Pediatric Hem.-Oncology, 2500 North State Street, Jackson, MS 39216.
