Mrs. Mary Evelyn Mordecai Coleman, age 82, died Saturday, June 16, 2012 at Trinity Personal Care in Columbus. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be Monday, June 18, 2012 from 6:00 PM -8:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Home and again Tuesday one hour before the service. Her service will be Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Memorial Funeral Home with Dr. Albert Wilkerson officiating. Burial will immediately follow in Friendship Cemetery. The daughter of the late Marion A. and Vertie Gault Mordecai, Mrs. Coleman was born March 11, 1930 in Lamar County, AL and was the last of nine Mordecai children - six brothers and three sisters. She was a lifelong, active member of East End Baptist Church, and was also a member of the Winsome Sunday School Class, Super Seniors Choir and Women on Missions. She retired in 1992 from K-Mart as Personnel Manager and served as a Pink Lady at Baptist Memorial for 20 years. In addition to her parents and her six brothers and two sisters, she was predeceased by her husband, James L. Chunky Coleman, who died December 20, 1988 and her son James A. Jim Coleman, who died December 12, 1995. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law Wayne and Janis Coleman, San Antonio, TX, Mike and Bonnie Coleman , Ringgold, GA and Geraldine Coleman, Columbus, MS, five grandchildren Evelyn Coleman, Sara Nowell (Judson), Katie Coleman, Stephen Coleman and Michelle Coleman and seven great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Bill Plyler, Mel Sharpe, Curtis Pritchett, Ernie Smith, Travis Berry and Jerry Kendall. Honorary pallbearers will be Eli Ward, Robert Brewer, C.A. Dodson and John Hillhouse, Sr. Memorials may be made to East End Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 8480, Columbus, MS 39705 or to the donors favorite charity.
