J.D. TUFFY BOURLAND Jimmie Dill "Tuffy" Bourland age 81 died Friday, August 02, 2013 at Baptist Memorial Hospital, Columbus. Services will be held at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church 2698 Ridge Road Columbus, MS at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday August 6, 2012 with Rev. Don Both and Rev. Charlie Whitney officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens Columbus MS. Visitation will be held at Gunter & Peel Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Monday August 5, 2013. Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Bourland was born on Friday, February 19, 1932 in Amory, MS to the late Jimmy Leroy and Eunice Howell Bourland. He was a member and Elder of Mt. Zion Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He was a 1950 graduate of Aberdeen High School where he was named an All-American, then played in the first Mississippi All Star game in Jackson, and received the MVP trophy. He was awarded a football scholarship to Mississippi State where he played football for 2 years before being drafted, into the U.S. Army. After serving his country he enrolled at Mississippi Southern where he continued playing football. He graduated in 1956 and began a long career in coaching and administration in Columbus public school system where he coached in various sports, then served as Principal at Lee High School, before finishing his career as Principal of Hamilton High School in 1985. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law Addine and R.L. Cooper, brother and sister-in-law, Harry and Lillian Bourland, brother, Hal Bourland, sister-in-law Ruth Bourland, and brother-in-law Harold Whitworth. Survivors include his wife Vicky Nosser Bourland Columbus, MS, two sons Jimmie Ray Bourland, Columbus, MS, and John Leroy Bourland, Madison, MS, his sister Jean Whitworth, Hamilton, MS, his brother Leroy Clinton Bourland (Martha), Aberdeen, MS, two sisters-in-law Ruth Edgeworth Bourland, Aberdeen, MS, and Mary Louise Nosser, Vicksburg, MS. He is also survived by four grandchildren Russell Scott Bourland, Jimmie Ray Bourland, Jr. Jennifer Blackburn, Alexander Taft Bourland and five great- grandchildren Kaden and Jaxson Bourland, and Ian, Quinn, and Arin Blackburn. The Pallbearers will be Russell Scott Bourland, Jimmie Ray Bourland, Jr., Alexander Taft Bourland, Bill Brigham, Dwight Colson, and David Fishel. The Honorary Pallbearers will be "My Boys Class of 1963", Past and Present Elders of First Cumberland and Mt. Zion Cumberland Presbyterian Churches, employees of Bourland Tree Service, and the General Manager and Board of Directors of the East Lowndes Water Association. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the donor's favorite charity.
