RAY HANKINS Rayburn E. "Ray" Hankins age 89 died Monday, August 01, 2011 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus. Services will be held Thursday, August 04, 2011 at 10:00 AM at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Ray and Rev. Bill Webb officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Columbus. Visitation will be held at Wednesday, August 03, 2011 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Mr. Hankins was born on Tuesday, January 10, 1922 in Lamar County, AL to the late Addie Lee and Nettie Langley Hankins. He attended Lamar County Schools. He was a current member and active Deacon of McBee Baptist Church and a former member and elected lifetime Deacon of East End Baptist Church. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy having served as a Seabee from 1942 to 1945 in the Southwest Pacific during WWII. He was a retired industrial electrician and a 55 year member of the IBEW Local Union 917. After his retirement in 1986, Mr. Hankins enjoyed fishing and gardening, especially growing tomatoes. He also enjoyed spending time with family, particularly his 6 grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Ervall, Lowell, and Samuel Hankins. Survivors include: His Wife of 68 years: Helen Livingston Hankins Columbus MS Two Sons: Tony Hankins (Mary), Hoover, AL Reggie Hankins (Fran), Columbus, MS Grandchildren: Wesley Hankins, Bessemer, AL Jason Hankins , Hoover, AL Sarah Hankins, Hoover, AL Bethany Schouest (Peyton), Summerville, SC Cara Sims (Jeff), Walnut Grove, MS Craig Bledsoe, Columbus, MS The Pallbearers will be: Wesley Hankins, Jason Hankins, Craig Bledsoe, Jeff Sims, Howard Hankins, Dewey Hankins The Honorary Pallbearers will be: Men's Bible Class of McBee Baptist Church, Member of IBEW Local Union 917, Deacons of McBee Baptist Church and Charles Stafford In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to: McBee Baptist Church Building Fund 2846 Highway 50 East Columbus MS 39702
