MILLIE HAMMERS Mildred Stokes "Millie" Hammers age 84 died Wednesday, July 08, 2009 at Mt. Royal Towers in Birmingham AL. Services will be held Saturday, July 11, 2009 at 4:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jearl Hunley officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery . Visitation will be held at Memorial Funeral Home Saturday, July 11, 2009 from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM. Mrs. Hammers was born on October 18, 1924 in Lamar County, AL, to the late Lee and Inez Delk Stokes. She was a member of North Shelby Baptist Church in Birmingham and a former member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in Columbus. She was a retired secretary of Procurement at Columbus Air Force Base, and a 1943 graduate of New Hope High School. She enjoyed reading and sewing. She was very proud of her grandchildren and loved to talk about them. She will be remembered for her infectious laugh and sweet smile. She never met a stranger. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband Homer Fredrick Pete Jones and her second husband James Elmon Mike Hammers. Survivors include: Three Sons: Rick Jones (Ramona), Columbus, MS Alvin Hammers (Susie), Birmingham, AL Mike Hammers (Lisa), Conway, AR; Six Grand Children Brian Jones Jay Hammers Lee Hammers Jennifer Gartrell Elizabeth Hammers Katherine Hammers and One Great Grand Child: Luke Hammers. The Pallbearers will be: Brian Jones, Jay Hammers, Lee Hammers, Anthony Gartrell, Alan Youngblood, Greg Youngblood In lieu of flowers memorial may be sent to: St. Judes Children's Research Hospital Memphis. 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38101
