Helen Marie Sartin Wilson, age 82, died Thursday, December 24, 2009 at The Arrington in Columbus MS. Services will be held Sunday, December 27, 2009 at 3:00 PM at the First Baptist Church, in Collins, Mississippi with Rev. Melvin Mordecai officiating and Memorial Funeral Home entrusted with arrangements. Burial will follow at Shiloh Cemetery, in Lawrence County, MS. Visitation will be held at Memorial Funeral Home, Columbus, MS, Saturday, December 26, 2009 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Mrs. Wilson was born on Wednesday, May 11, 1927 in Kokomo, MS to the late Arley Conway and Lucy Alma Duncan Sartin. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Collins. She obtained her cosmetology license in 1957 and an instructor license in July 1979. She opened a beauty salon in Collins in 1957, which was originally located on Main Street close to city hall, and later relocated to her home. After she retired from operating her salon, she served on the Mississippi State Board of Cosmetology from 1970 to 1978, and served as its president from 1984 to 1988. She also taught cosmetology briefly at Jones County Junior College. Mrs. Wilson also served on the National Interstate Council of State Boards of Cosmetology and was president 1974-1975. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband H.A. Wilson Jr. and her siblings, Clifford Sartin, Nellie Sartin James, A.C. Sartin, Virginia Sartin Smith, and Ruth Sartin Anderson. She is survived by three daughters Barbara Smith (Charles), Mexia, AL, Jan Atkins (Ronnie), Columbus, MS and Sherry Jones, Georgetown, KY. She is also survived by eight grandchildren Carla James (Bob), Sheila Goodman, Brad Atkins (Melissa), Brent Atkins, Beau Atkins, Chris Jones (Carol), Shanna Patton (John) and Michael Jones and nine great grandchildren Haley Pettis, Summer Pettis, Joshua Goodman, Madison Atkins, Collin Atkins, Daren Jones, Caitlin Jones, Carter Patton, and Landon Patton. The Pallbearers will be Brad Atkins, Brent Atkins, Beau Atkins, Chris Jones, Michael Jones and John Patton. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The Arrington at Plantation Pointe, 234 Windsor Blvd, Columbus, MS 39702 or Alzheimer's Association of Mid-Mississippi, 1900 Dunburton Street, Suite 1, Jackson MS 39216.
