Malcolm F. "Mac" Spann, 66 ,of Steens, MS died Sunday, March 15, 2009 at Cherub's Personal Care Home in Steens, MS Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Funeral Home. Graveside serviceswill be held Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Friendship Cemetery,with Rev. Glenn Miller, officiating. Burial will also be at Friendship Cemetery, in Columbus, MS The son of the late Julius F. Spann, Jr. and Blanche Jones Spann, Mac was born Saturday, March 13, 1943 in Columbus. He graduated with the Class of 1961 from S.D. Lee Senior High School in Columbus and enlisted in the Ms Army National Guard. Shortly thereafter, his National Guard unit was called to active duty during the Intergration Crisis at the University of Ms in 1961. He later worked as a technician for the National Guard in Columbus for several years. Before his disabling stroke, he was employed as a drug and alcohol counselor at Community Counseling Services in Columbus. Hi is survived by his son John Spann( Becky) of Rockvale, TN, daughter Angie Hartwell of New York, N.Y., brother Richard Spann (Belinda) of Columbus, MS, granddaughters Meredith and Vanessa Spann , niece Laura Catherine Spann Yeatman (Luke) and nephew Will Spann.
