John Virgil Fancher, Jr., age 85, of Columbus, MS, died Monday, July 7, 2008 at his residence in Columbus, MS. Arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday, July 9, 2008. His funeral service will be held in the chapel of Memorial Funeral Home at 10:00 AM Thursday, July 10, 2008 with Minister Billy Ferguson officiating. Interment will be at Memorial Gardens in Columbus, MS The son of the late John Virgil, Sr. and Jessie Long Fancher, he was born July 30, 1922 in Columbus, MS. Mr. Fancher served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater and received an Honorable Discharge in December, 1952. Mr Fancher retired from Hardin's Bakery in 1983 with 31 years of employment as a Route Salesman. He then worked for Sunflower Food Store in East Columbus for 17 years in the warehouse. He was a member of the Church Of Christ of Columbus. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Helen Permenter Fancher and brothers Wayne Bradshaw Fancher and Felix Mayfield Fancher. He is survived by his son John Virgil Fancher, III (Sheri) and step-sons Roy Byrd Jones (Debra) and James Randall Jones, and three grandchildren Jud and Jenna Jones and Allison Fancher, all of Columbus. Pallbearers will be Lloyd McCarter, Felix Fancher, Jr., Paul Long, Ronnie Smith, Earl Cunningham and Kelly Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be AseraCare Hospice, Rev, Nick Cannady, special caregivers Jennifer Washington and Jennifer Douglas, Dr. Frank Dailey, Dr. Gordon Castleberry and Employees of Sunflower Food Store #44.
