William Ross Burnett

June 17, 1940 — May 5, 2011

ROSS BURNETT William Ross Burnett, age 70, of Columbus, MS, went home to be with his Lord May 5, 2011, at Trinity Select Hospital in Birmingham, AL. Funeral services will be Sunday, May 8, 2011, at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church of Columbus with Dr. Shawn Parker officiating. The interment will immediately follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Fayette, AL. Visitation will be Saturday, May 7, 2011, from 6:00 - 9:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Home and also one hour prior to the service on Sunday at the First Baptist Church. Mr. Burnett was born June 17, 1940, in Bristol, VA, to the late Jesse Thomas and Minnie Duke Burnett. He retired from Weyerhaueser Pulp and Paper Complex, where he was an engineer. He was a member of First Baptist Church and active member of the Builders Sunday School Class. In addition to his parents, Mr. Burnett was preceded in death by his sisters, Barbara Barbee and Charlotte Davies, both of Knoxville, TN. Survivors include his wife, Betty Patterson Burnett of Columbus, MS, daughter, Tracey Burnett Courtney and her husband Ronnie of Caledonia, MS, son, Bill Burnett and his wife Vicki of Starkville, MS, grandchildren, Jeremy Blackburn of Fulton, MS, Jessica Blackburn of Starkville, MS, Tori Ferguson of Starkville, MS, David Burnett of Starkville, MS, and Maggie Burnett of Starkville, MS, and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Dr. Andrew Johnson, Ray Crane, Forrest Allgood, Henry McQueen, Glen McCullough, and Glen Lautzenhiser. Honorary pallbeaers will be Bill Brooks, Bob Redwood, Bob Reynolds, Frank Griffin, III, Dr. Clarke Bozeman, Dr. Michael Duckworth, Rick Humphreys, Glen McCollough, Sr., Tommy Glisson, Dr. Jeff Norton, Joe Heatherly, and members of the Builders Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 829, Columbus, MS, 39703.
