Harold D. Walker

Harold Dexter Walker, age 85, died Sunday, September 21, 2008. He was born July 10, 1923 in Silerton, TN to the late Harry and Mabel Walker. The family moved to Laurel, MS where he was in elementary school and grew up there until he graduated high school. Harold graduated from Louisiana State University with a degree in Petroleum Engineering in 1947. He worked for Dresser Industries in Houston, TX for 32 years as a Ballistic Engineer designing and patenting shaped charges for oil and gas exploration. He served in World War II with the 22nd Marine Division and the 6th Marine Division Signal Company as a Field Radio Operator. He served in the Pacific and fought at the battles of Guadalcanal, Guam, Okinawa, Eniwetok and Ulithe and served at the signing of the Japanese surrender at Yoka Suka Naval Base in Japan. His favorite pastimes include reading, fishing, hunting, photography, traveling and visiting with family and friends. He is preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Edna Redden Walker, his son Kenneth Walker, daughter in law Jun Walker, granddaughter Kari Walker, brother William Walker and sister, Louise Hood. Survivors include daughter, Brenda Blackwell (Michael) of Hattiesburg, MS, sons, Keith Walker (Wanda) of Clinton, MS, Bill Walker (Lucy Anne) and Jim Walker ( Leigh) of Columbus, MS. His grandchildren are Breanne Sullivan, Lindsey Mickel, Robby Walker, Kasey Walker, Madison Walker, Macy Walker, Houston Walker, Hagan Walker and Caroline Walker. Visitation will be at Memorial Funeral Home Tuesday at 9:30-11:00 am with funeral services following at 11:00 am. Burial will be at 4:30 pm in Sunset Gardens Cemetery in Laurel, MS.
