MAURICE E. ESTES, SR. Maurice Edward Estes, Sr. Age 84 died October 4, 2007 at the Mississippi Veterans Home in Oxford, MS Graveside services will be held at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery on Saturday, October 6, 2007, at 2:00 PM with Rev. Bryant Benton Officiating Visitation will be at Memorial Funeral Home on Friday, October 5, 2007, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Mr. Estes was born in Mathiston MS on September 21, 1923 to the late Tommy O. and Ella Sue Moucha Estes. He was a founding member of Steens First Baptist Church where he taught the men's adult Sunday School class for many years. He was a 1941 graduate of Eupora High School. He was a member of the U.S. Marine Corp. and served in the south Pacific during World War II. After being honorably discharged from service, he graduated from Sunflower Junior College in 1949 and was a 1951 graduate of the University of Mississippi. After graduating from college, he was employed by California Eastern Aviation at Columbus Air Force Base and then Moore Air Force Base in Mission, Texas. He and his wife then moved to Steens where Mr. Estes worked in civil service at Columbus Air Force Base for 30 years. His interests included history, astronomy, and he was a fan of the Ole Miss Rebels. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother LaDell Estes. Wife of 52 years, Virginia Porter Estes of Steens, Miss. Daughter-Carole E. Murphey (Smith) of Batesville, Miss. Son-Maurice Edward "Eddie" Estes Jr. of Steens, Miss. Granddaughter-Carole Addison Murphey and twin grandsons Archer Smith Murphey and Webb Smith Murphey Honorary Pallbearers will be-Denzil Aldredge Honorary Pallbearers-Curtis Brown Honorary Pallbearers-Smith Murphey, IV Honorary Pallbearers-Lee Garner Younger Honorary Pallbearers-Tom Younger Honorary Pallbearers-Tim Younger And the Adult Mens Sunday School Class and the Deacons of Steens First Baptist Church.
