Edgar Brown Pennington , 93, died December 31, 2008 at his residence in Columbus. Services will be held at Memorial Funeral Home on Monday, January 5, 2009 at 11:00 AM with Dr. Shawn Parker officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be at Memorial Funeral Home on Sunday, January 4, 2009 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and again Monday one hour prior to the service. Mr. Pennington was born on April 11, 1915 in Monroe County to the late Milton Brown and Mary Bertie Hudson Pennington. He was raised in Lamar County, Alabama ,having moved there at the age of seven. Mr. Pennington was a member of Woodland Baptist Church. He had a great love for his Lord and passed this legacy on to his children and grandchildren. During his working years, Mr. Pennington was a farmer, and worked for Beneke Corp. and Seminole Mfg in Columbus, MS. He also worked as a service station operator for Sanders Oil. He then operated the College Street Cities Service station, which later became Citgo, from the late 50s until the early 70s. Later he worked for Golden Triangle Regional Airport as a security officer until his retirement in 1980. Mr. Pennington was an avid gardener and after his retirement spent the majority of his time pursuing his favorite hobby as a master gardener. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Rowena Marie Edwards and his son James Edgar Pennington. Survivors include: daughters Marie Kiser of Chicago, IL;, Joyce Rennaker of Dallas, TX; Barbara Lancaster (Earl) of Ethelsville, AL; Edna Penson (Tom) of Marion, NC; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The Pallbearers will be Neil Kiser, Keith Kiser, Johnny Lancaster, Jason Rennaker, and his and sons-in-law. Memorials can be made to the charity of your choice.
