HERSHEL PERRY - Hershel Levon Perry, age 79, of Columbus, MS, died July 12, 2010, at his residence. Funeral services will be Thursday, July 15, 2010, at 11:00 AM at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Al Hamm officiating and Rev. Gene Gillis assisting. The interment will immediately follow at Salem Methodist Cemetery in Noxubee County with military honors. Visitation will also be Thursday, July 15, 2010, from 9:00 AM until service time at Memorial Funeral Home. Mr. Perry was born October 2, 1930, in Philadelphia, MS, to the late John Leland and Lillie E. Nance Perry. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the United States Army with the 82nd Airborne Division. Mr. Perry retired from APAC after 37 years as a supervisor and heavy equipment operator. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and the former Columbus Speedway Association. Mr. Perry enjoyed racing and in addition to his parents, was preceded in death by a son, Hershel David Perry. Survivors include his wife, Jeane Perry of Columbus, daughter, Nancy Perry McDill and her husband Dean of Steens, MS, brother, Charles Perry of Hattiesburg, MS, sister, Joyce Flynt of Laurel, MS, grandchildren, Chris McDill and his wife Chantel of Steens, MS, Amy O'Neal and her husband Matthew of Millport, AL, and great grandchildren Aylah O'Neal and Bryant Hershel McDill. Pallbearers will be Eddie Rickman, Herbert Junkin, Bobby Ray, Lee Ray, Curtis Johnson, and Rusty House. Honorary pallbearers will be past and present employees of APAC, friends of the local dirt track community, and members of the Huddle House Coffee Club. Memorials may be made to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church 1383 Pleasant Hill Rd. Columbus, MS or Victory Christian Academy 100 Victory Loop Columbus, MS 39702.
