LEWIS DONALD ATKINS Lewis Donald Atkins age 86 died Sunday, December 15, 2013 at his residence in Columbus. Services will be held Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Tabernacle United Methodist Church with Rev. Jerry Brownlee officiating, burial with U.S. Army Honors, will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday December 17, 2013, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Atkins family home 3200 Highway 50 East Columbus, MS 39702, and again one hour prior to service at the church. Mr. Atkins was born on December 24, 1926 in Liberty, AL to the late Lewis Dewitt and Ada Key Youngblood Atkins. He was a member of St. Stephens United Methodist Church, and a U.S. Army WWII Veteran. He was a retired employee of A&P Grocery Store and a farmer. He spent his days gardening and working in the flowerbeds with his wife. And he also loved cookouts and family gatherings. Survivors include: His wife of 66 years: Gracie Ann Speed Atkins Columbus MS Three Daughters: Cynthia Ann Atkins Poole (Jim), Cocoa, FL Paula Sue Atkins Ashcraft Beard, Columbus, MS Patricia Lane Atkins Mathis (Stan), Columbus, MS One Son: Mike Atkins (Kathie), Columbus, MS One Brother: Orman Atkins (Agnes), Shreveport, LA 9 Grandchildren, 14 Great Grandchildren, and 8 Great Great Grandchildren Numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members, Pallbearers will be: Todd Poole Kevin Blizard Alex Burnett Jermaine Burnett Max Atkins Billy Ashcraft Dr. Leroy Howell and his staff
