Frances L. Dodson, better known to her family as Granny , passed away at her residence on March 25, 2011 at the age of 86. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday afternoon, March 28, at Border Springs Baptist Church located on highway 12 East in the Caledonia area. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service. The service will conclude at the church with private burial to follow at Rowan Cemetery. Arrangements will be handled by Memorial Funeral Home in Columbus with visitation at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, March 27. Rev. David Westmoreland will officiate the services. Active pallbearers will be Ray Adair, Bob Fleming, Wayne McLemore, Joe Moseley, Harold Partain, Doug Wiggins, Glenn Wilson, and Tommy Wiggins. Honorary pallbearers will be Wilburn Beatty, Jim Denning, Brad Freeman, Bill Mixon, John Partain, and Bryan Windle. Mrs. Dodson was born April 30, 1924 in Birmingham, AL to Emmett N. and Letha Holder Lagrone. She was a graduate of Caledonia High School, class of 1941. She spent over 30 years as an employee of United Technologies until her retirement in May 1986. While there, she developed many special friendships and made many special memories. She enjoyed traveling with her husband (Granddaddy) including many trips to Panama City Beach as well as trips to Hawaii, Canada, the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, the Bahamas, and multiple trips to the Great Smokey Mountains. She was also a faithful member of Border Springs Baptist Church for over 70 years where she served in various roles. She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 67 years, John C. Dodson, her parents, Emmett N. Lagrone, Sr. and Letha Holder Lagrone, and brothers, Emmett Lagrone, Jr. and Gene Lagrone. Survivors include son, John Dodson (Brenda), grandsons, Mike Dodson (Missy) and Mark Dodson (Christy), and great-grandchildren Ashley, Taylor and John Curtis Dodson all of the Caledonia area. She is also survived by brothers Dan Lagrone (Mary) of Toney, AL, Dave Lagrone of Davenport, IA, and Wayne Lagrone (Elizabeth Ann) of Toomsuba, MS.
