Eleanor Caldwell Pendley

Eleanor Caldwell Pendley, age 88, of Caledonia, Mississippi, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on January 2, 2013. She will be long remembered for her sweet spirit, generous nature, ability to listen, and her unconditional love for her family and others, and her unwavering faith in Jesus Christ. She was a 1942 graduate of Caledonia High School and a member of New Salem Baptist Church where she worked with the Girls Auxiliary (GAs) for over 40 years, and was a member of the Senior Adult Ladies Sunday School Class. She married Daniel A. Pendley, Jr., while he was on leave from the U.S. Navy, on June 25, 1944. Following World War II, as a Navy wife, Eleanor had the opportunity to live in several places prior to her and her family moving back to her family home in Caledonia, Mississippi, where she lived until her passing. She is survived by her sons and daughters -in- law, Gary and Debbie Pendley of Bartlett, Tennessee, and Marc and Jennifer Pendley of Memphis, Tennessee; daughter and son-in-law, Marcia and Al Finch of Columbus, Mississippi; sisters-in-law, Louise Caldwell of Caledonia, Mississippi and Geonette Pendley of West Point, Mississippi; sister-in-law and brother-inlaw, Martha and Morris Stokes of Eastaboga, Alabama; grandson and fiance, Rodney Finch and Jaimee Spainhour; grandsons, Jeffrey Finch, Joshua Finch, Zachary Pendley and Ryan Pendley; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Daniel A. Pendley, Jr.; her parents, Raymond Bennett and Willie Mae Sharp Caldwell, Sr.; her brother, Raymond Bennett Caldwell, Jr.; and granddaughter, Melinda Louise Finch. Visitation will be on Saturday, January 5, 2013, from 5 to 8 pm at Memorial Funeral Home, Columbus, Mississippi, and the funeral service will be on Sunday, January 6, 2013, at 2:30 pm, at New Salem Baptist Church, Columbus, Mississippi, with Reverend David Woods officiating. The body will be at the church one hour prior to service. The internment will immediately follow at Rowan Cemetery, Caledonia, Mississippi. Pallbearers will be Tommy Vaughn, Chuck Putt, Lamar Jones, Frank Lockhart, Jeff Epling, Dave Gaddy, Eddie Rushing, and Tony Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Smith, Clay Shepherd, Nathan Watson, Ron Bailey, Gary Thomas, Terry Bishop, Sam Dowdle, and Ben Thomas. Memorials may be made to New Salem Baptist Church-Lottie Moon Mission Offering, 7086 Wolfe Rd., Columbus, Mississippi 39705.
