DANIEL PENDLEY, JR. Daniel Arthur Pendley, Jr., age 87, of Caledonia, MS, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away June 17, 2011, ten days shy of his 67th wedding anniversary. He served his country as a bombadier with the U. S. Navy, in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. He retired with the rank of Chief Petty Officer after 30 years of service. His greatest service was as long-term caregiver to his son, Gary, following a traumatic injury while serving in Vietnam, and in later years to his wife, Eleanor. He was continually "lending a hand" to all three of his children, grandchildren, and neighbors. Mr. Pendley was a 1942 graduate of New Hope High School and member of New Salem Baptist Church where he served as deacon and on several committees. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Eleanor Caldwell Pendley of Caledonia, MS, sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Debbie Pendley of Bartlett, TN, Marc and Jennifer Pendley of Memphis, TN, daughter and son-in-law, Marcia and Al Finch of Columbus, MS, sister and brother-in-law, Martha and Morris Stokes of Eastaboga, AL, grandchildren, Rodney, Jeffrey, and Josh Finch, and Zachary and Ryan Pendley, and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Pendley was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Arthur and Clearice King Pendley, Sr., brothers, Eugene, Hollis, Orval, and Nathaniel Pendley, sister, Mirilee Pendley, and granddaughter, Melinda Louise Finch. Visitation will be Saturday, June 18, 2011, from 6:00-8:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Sunday, June 19, 2011, at 3:00 PM at New Salem Baptist Church with Rev. David Woods officiating. The body will be at the church one hour prior to the service. The interment will immediatley follow at Rowan Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tommy Vaughn, Chuck Putt, Lamar Jones, Frank Lockhart, Dave Gaddy, Eddie Rushing, and Tony Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Smith, Clay Shepherd, Nathan Watson, Ron Bailey, Gary Thomas, Terry Bishop, Alan Jones, Jeff Epling, Tim Jackson, Sam Dowdle, and the Men's Sr. Sunday School Class of New Salem Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to New Salem Baptist Church, 7086 Wolfe Rd., Columbus, MS, 39705.
