Mr. Heyward Cecil Oswalt, age 87, of Kosciusko, MS, formerly of Ethelsville, AL, died Monday, December 5, 2011 at Montfort-Jones Memorial Hospital in Kosciusko, MS. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Funeral Home. Services, with Brother Mel Howton officiating, will be Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Ethelsville Baptist Church, Ethelsville, AL, preceded by visitation, also at the church, from 9:00 to 10:45 AM. Burial will immediately follow in Ethelsville Baptist Church Cemetery. The son of the late Braxton and Rena McCarty Oswalt, Mr. Oswalt was born July 11, 1924 in Chester, MS. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the US Navy as a Radio Operator in the Atlantic. In January, 1953, he married Mildred Jean Williams, who preceded in death on February 15, 2009. He retired after twenty years as a truck driver from Yellow Freight in 1987, working nearly forty years in the trucking business. He was a long-time member of Ethelsville Baptist Church. In addition to his parents and his wife Jean Oswalt, he was preceded in death by a brother Eldridge Shorty Oswalt. Mr. Oswalt is survived by his sons Randy Oswalt and Jerry Franks (Nancy), all of Columbus and Kenny Oswalt of Ethelsville, Al and his sister Florine Fiedor of Brentwood, TN. He is also survived by his grandchildren K.C. Oswalt (Danielle), Angela Jean Sparks (Randy) and Marleigh and Abigail Oswalt and his great grandsons Nathan, Patrick and Randall Sparks. Pallbearers will be Randy Sparks, Nathan Sparks, Patrick Sparks, Randall Sparks, K.C. Oswalt and Jordy Howton. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Earl Jaynes, Otis Pritchard, Earnest Jones, Boyd Sullivan, Jimmy Ray, and the staff of Trinity HealthCare.
