VIRGINIA HATCHER Virginia Ruth Moore Hatcher, age 103, died October 7, 2008 at Trinity Healthcare in Columbus, MS. She was born June 16, 1905 in the Black Hawk Community of Carroll County, MS. to Jacob Daniel and Mary Wright Moore. Services will be held Saturday, October 11 at 11:00 AM. in Columbus at First Presbyterian Church, 3200 Bluecutt Rd. with The Reverend Tom Bryson officiating and The Reverend Ron McDougal assisting. Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 9:30 AM. Burial will take place at Vaiden Cemetery, Vaiden, MS. at 3:00 pm. Memorial Funeral Home has charge of arrangements. Mrs. Hatcher attended Delta State Teachers College and taught school in North Carrollton. In 1928, she married John Leonard Hatcher of Vaiden, MS. They made their home in the Delta in Scott, MS., and after retirement, in Benoit, MS. Mrs. Hatcher moved to Columbus in 1986 where she was a resident of Trinity Place and a member of First Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Hatcher was postmaster in Scott, MS. for 28 years. A Presbyterian, she was a member of Benoit Union Church where through the years, she served as Moderator of Presbyterian Women and a Sunday School teacher. She was a member of Eastern Star Sisterhood and the Home Demonstration Club in her community. An industrious and helpful person, Mrs. Hatcher loved gardening, was a talented seamstress, and a gifted dessert cook. She was noted for her delicious caramel and chocolate fudge cakes. At Trinity she learned the art of ceramics and shared this talent with others. One of her ceramic magnolias was presented to President Reagan during his visit to the Boys and Girls Ranch in Lowndes County. She was preceeded in death by her husband, Leonard Hatcher, and her eldest son, The Honorable John Leslie (Jack) Hatcher. She is survived by her son, Robert A. (Al) Hatcher (Sue): seven grandchildren, John Hatcher (Lynn) of Germantown, TN., Wendy Leigh Hatcher of Seattle, WA., The Rev. Robert "Chip" Hatcher (Melinda) of Hernando, MS., Glynis Hatcher Malcolm (Doug) of Mission Viejo, CA., Ginny Hatcher Butler (Joel) of Columbus, MS., Bill Hatcher (Mitzi) of Cleveland, MS., Tom Hatcher (Laurie) of Columbus, MS. and fourteen great grandchildren. Mrs. Hatcher's grandsons and great grandsons will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to First Presbyterian Church, 3200 Bluecutt Rd., Columbus, MS. 39705 , and Trinity Healthcare, 230 Airline Rd. Columbus, MS. 39702.
