Otto Morse Kochtitzky

Dr.Otto Morse Kochtitzky, age 87, died June 26, 2008,in Nashville, Tennessee. Morse leaves a legacy of a doctor who was his patients cherished friend. He and his wife Marjorie were a great team in their 63 years of marriage. Their lives were brightened in their mid-70s by the birth of grandsons Will and Tom who have been Morses favorite and enthusiastic guests at Titans' football games in Nashville. He was a loyal friend to many, and he especially enjoyed his long-time mens golf and bridge groups. Morse was born on December 22, 1920, and grew up in Columbus, Mississippi. Following undergraduate study at the University of the South at Sewanee, Morse served as a navigation officer in the US Air Force during World War II. He graduated from Vanderbilt University Medical School in 1950 and joined the internal medicine practice, Frist-Scoville Group in Nashville, Tennessee. Morse served as chairman of Nashvilles Park View Hospital and Chief of Medicine at Baptist Hospital. He served as chairman of the Board of Trustees and president of the Tennessee Medical Association in the mid-1970s and received that organizations Distinguished Service Award in 1976. He was an officer of the Tennessee Public Health Council of the Tennessee Public Health Department. Morse was president and chairman of the board of the Middle Tennessee Heart Association. In the 1970s he served two terms on the Board of Regents of The University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee, and chaired a major capital campaign. Morse served St. Georges Episcopal Church as senior warden in 1972 and was a member of the Belle Meade Country Club in Nashville. He was preceded in death by his parents Otto L. Kochtitzky and Julia Morse Kochtitzky, wife Marjorie Stephenson Kochtitzky, daughter Katherine Kochtitzky Hunt, and sister Jane Kochtitzky Quin of Columbus. He is survived by his son the Rev. Rodney Morse Kochtitzky, daughter-in-law Jane Cazort Hardy, and grandsons William and Thomas Hardy Kochtitzky of Nashville. He is also survived by his sister Julia Wade Kochtitzky Franklin (Ike) of Columbus, and sister-in-law Shirley Stephenson of Meridian, Mississippi. A memorial service will be held at 4:00, Tuesday, July 1, 2008 at St. Georges Episcopal Church in Nashville. Visitation with the family will be at St. Georges at 3:00. A graveside service will be held at 11:00, Thursday, July 3, at Friendship Cemeteryin Columbus, Ms with The Rev. James Carlyle, Rector of St. Pauls Episcopal Church officiating. Memorials may be made to St. Pauls Episcopal Church, 318 College St., Columbus,Ms 39701 or St. Lukes Community House, 5601 New York Avenue, Nashville, TN 37209, or the charity of your choice.
