Joseph Henry Alford, Jr. , age 76, died Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at his home in Columbus. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Funeral Home. His funeral will be at First Baptist Church at 11:00 am, Thursday , March 20, 2008, with Dr. Shawn Parker officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at First Baptist. Internment will follow the service at Friendship Cemetery. The son of the late Joseph H. Alford, Sr. and Grace Brewster Alford, Mr. Alford was born in Columbus December 14, 1931 and graduated from S. D. Lee Senior High School in 1950. He was also a graduate of Samford University. After receiving his degree in Pharmacy, he went to work with his father at the family-owned Alford Drugs, which opened for business in 1949. He also worked at Reece's Drugs for 30 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church and Dr. Platt's Sunday School Class. In addition to his parents, he was preceased by his wife Mary Sherida "Sherry" McCoy Alford. He is survived by his daughter Mary Katherine Ming (Dennis),sister Ann Alford, sister-in law Edna Mae McCoy, niece , Melanie McCoy and great nephew Mark McCoy, all of Columbus. Pallbearers will be Hunter Gholson, Bobby Fuqua, Phillip DiCicco, J.C. Perkins, Marc Miley, Dennis Ming, and Chess Ming. Honorary pallbearers will be Harry Yeatman, Mark Welch, Merle Fraser, Gene Williams , Don Weathers, Tommy Halbert and Dr. Platt's Sunday School Class.
