Evans Page Wortham Evans Page, age 82, died April 17, 2007 at his residence in Columbus, MS. Services will be held at Fairview Baptist Church on Friday, April 20, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Mickey Dalrymple and Rev. Sammy Crawford officiating. Burial will follow at Friendship Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday, April 19, 2007 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Home. Evans Page served in the U. S. Army during World War II. After his discharge, he worked for several years selling insurance and decided to follow his desire to become a coach. He received his degree from Mississippi State University. Coach Evans Page began his coaching career in Kennedy, AL. He also coached in Pearson, GA; Nanih Waiya and Houston, MS. When the opportunity to move back closer to home and coach basketball at R. S. Caldwell Junior High School in Columbus, MS, arose, Coach Page took it. R. S. Caldwell Junior High School became R. S. Caldwell High School and he was awarded the job of Mens Basketball Coach. Coach Page had a very successful basketball career and coached the Caldwell Bobcats to many successful basketball seasons. Coach Pages true love was helping to mold young people into adults whether it was someone on his basketball team, his drivers education classes, history classes, study halls or physical education classes. He coached at Caldwell for 21 years before he retired in 1986. After his retirement from Caldwell, he coached at Macon Central for three years. He retired at that time for health reasons. In 1991 he was inducted into the Mississippi Coaches Hall of Fame as a High School Coach for 35 years of service. Coach Page was born on May 17, 1924 in Bigbee, MS to the late Wortham David and Ellie Evans Page. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Swain Page. He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Catherine Kitty Page of Columbus, MS; daughters, Judy Pulliam (Darriel) of Columbus, MS; Bettie Malone (Ladd) of Caledonia, MS; Sylvia Friday (Curt) of Columbus, MS and son Wade Wilson (Sandra) of Macon, MS; grandchildren, Michelle Herrington of Brandon, MS; Susan Bell of Columbus, MS; Amy Pulliam of Port St. Lucie, FL; Brian D. Malone of Caledonia, MS; Eric Malone of Caledonia, MS; Jennifer Harthcock of Olive Branch; Brian Wilson of Oxford, MS; Laura Beth Wilson of Macon, MS and seven great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Brian D. Malone, Eric Malone, Brian Wilson, Les Herrington, Scott Bell and Wade Wilson. Honorary Pallbearers are Mark Vickers Sunday School Class and former coaches and faculty members. Memorials may be made to Fairview Baptist Church Building Fund, 127 Airline Road, Columbus, MS 39702
