Berniece Windham Martin, age 90, died Wednesday, August 21, 2013, at Comperes Nursing Home in Jackson, MS, where she had lived and received care for over 4 years. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be Saturday from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Home. Services will be at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Memorial Funeral Home with Rev. Kevin Jenkins, officiating. Burial will follow at Friendship Cemetery. Mrs. Martin was born September 7, 1922, in Jasper County, MS to the late Howard and Trudie McNeil Windham. She had been a resident of Jackson for the past 11 years after having been a resident of Columbus, MS for 44 years. She graduated from Louisville High School at the age of 16. She married soon thereafter, travelled extensively, and lived in several southeastern cities and states from Mississippi to Maryland. She moved to Columbus with her two children in 1958. For many years she served as Head Dietician for the Columbus Hospital, retiring from there in 1985. She was a member of Fairview Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters Bernadine Carlson and Peggie Dubuisson and her daughter Carol Martin Grinder. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law David and Diane Martin of Jackson; five grandchildren Edwin Grinder (Wendy), Nicole Mace, Gregory Grinder, Drew Martin (Missye) and Daniel Martin and six great grandchildren Tristan, Balin and Piper Mace, and Turner, Harrison and McNeil Martin. The family expresses its sincere appreciation to Dr. Holland Addison, Dr. Joyce Wade, Nurse Practitioner Gena Seago and all of the nurses and staff who provided such special care to Berniece at Comperes.
