Mildred Otie Smith, age 91, formerly of Columbus, died Friday, February 18, 2011 at Decatur General Hospital in Decatur AL. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Memorial Funeral Home. Services were held Monday, February 21, 2011 at 3:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ben Yarber officiating. Burial immediately followed at Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation was held at Memorial Funeral Home Monday, February 21, 2011 from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM. Mrs. Smith was born on Thursday, October 31, 1919 in Nettleton, MS to the late Romie and Lula Roberts Hathcote. She was a longtime resident of Artesia and a member of Artesia Baptist Church. After she moved to Trinity Place, she transferred her church membership to Fairview Baptist. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Marvin Leon Smith, who died in 1990. She is survived by her daughter, Joyce Lynn Boutwell (Tony), Skiatook, OK and her two sons Melvin Steve Smith (Paula Fay), Decatur, AL and Ronald Leroy Smith (Patricia Carol), Oklahoma City, OK, a brother R.T. Hathcote (Gladys Ann) Gallatin, TN and a sister Ruby Mae Brown, Verona, MS . She is also survived by six grandchildren Melvin Steve Smith, Jr., Pamela Carol Wilson, Lisa Carol Smith, David Brian Smith, Catherine Lynn Carter, Deborah Anna Romo and seven great grandchildren Justin Aaron Smith, Brittany Nicole Smith, Paul Kegan Wilson, Matthew Quinn Wilson, Ilana Boucher, Dahlia Smith and Alexandra Romo. The Pallbearers were Steve Smith, Jr., David Wilson, Paul Wilson, Matthew Wilson, and Bernie Romo. Memorials may be made to Palmer Home for Children, P.O. Box 746, Columbus, MS 39703.
