David M. "Sonny" Fortner, age 56, died February 13, 2010, at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg, MS. Funeral services will be Sunday, February 14, 2010, at 2:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Pete Bowen officiating. The interment will immediately follow at Pine Grove Cemetery near Ethelsville, AL. The visitation will also be Sunday, February 14, 2010, one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Sonny was born July 23, 1953, in Columbus, MS to the late Edward Fortner and Beulah Harrell Fortner Richardson. He was an active participant of the ACT Center for 30 years and worked several part time jobs including Kroger, Ramey's Grocery of Prentiss, MS, and McDonald's. Sonny was a current resident of the Stonebriar Group Home of Prentiss, MS, and loved and enjoyed people and never met a stranger. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ellis Fortner, and sisters, Barbara Smith and Glenda Fortner. Survivors include brothers, Danny Fortner (Carol) and Frank Fortner, both of Columbus, MS, and sisters, Peggy Murphy (Ken) of Muskogee, OK, Linda Shriver (Bob) of Columbus, and Marie Golden ( Frank) of Columbus, MS, and a number of nieces and nephews.
