Julia Wade Franklin of Columbus died Friday, January 21, 2011 at her home in Columbus. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Monday, January 24, 2011 at 2:00 PM at St. Pauls Episcopal Church, with the Very Reverend James Carlyle, Rector of St. Pauls officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service in the Earline Robertson Room at St. Pauls. Burial will follow in Friendship Cemetery. The daughter of the late Julia Morse and Otto L. Kochtitzky, Mrs. Franklin was born December 12, 1926 in Memphis, TN. She had lived in Columbus since 1932, when her family moved here from Memphis, TN. She attended Mississippi State College for Women and graduated from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, NC. She returned to Columbus and taught ballet as an assistant to Miss Emma Ody Pohl at the W and later as a private teacher. On November 23, 1950, she married Issac Douglass Franklin. They lived in the Prairie where he farmed until 1990. In the 1970s she was a stockbroker with J. C. Bradford & Co. In the late70s she and Betty Clyde Jones opened and operated Lagniappe Gift Shop, later known as Caldwell Gifts. Mrs. Franklin was a member of St. Pauls Episcopal Church, a lifetime member of the Junior Auxiliary, and she served as President of the Lee Home. She was also a member of Sipping and Seafood Supper Club, Lowndes County Marching and Chowder Society and Magowah Gun and Country Club. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother Dr. Otto Morse Kochtitzky, her sister Jane Kochtitzky Quin and their spouses. She is survived by her husband Isaac D. Ike Franklin, now residing in Denver, CO; her daughter and son-in-law Julie and Bill Evans of Denver, CO; her daughter Arden Franklin of Columbus; nephews Wade Quin of Madison and Rodney Kochtitzky of Nashville, TN and a niece Jennie Quin Szaltis of Jacksonville, FL. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Threadgill, Jim Evans, Wade Quin, Rod Kochtitzky, Bill Evans and Ray Szaltis.
