Miriam Wade Lilly Puckett

Miriam Wade Lilley Puckett, 89, died on Thursday, March 22, 2007 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus, Mississippi. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday March 24, 2007, at the First Baptist Church in Columbus with the Rev. Shawn Parker officiating. Burial will be in Friendship Cemetery immediately following. Visitation will be at 9:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Columbus. Mrs. Puckett was born August 27, 1917 in the Tinnin Community in Hinds County Mississippi on the family farm called Lilley Hill to the late John Benjamin and Jessie Costello Lilley. She was a graduate of Hinds Junior College where she attended on a basketball scholarship and M.S.C.W where she received her degree in Home Economics. After college she worked as a Home Demonstration agent, married W.L. Tots Puckett and raised four daughters. She was a founding member of The Columbus Junior Auxiliary in which she served as President, The Cherokee Garden Club, The Les Amis Study Club, The Sew and Sew Club, and a member of the First Baptist Church in Columbus. She also enjoyed taking trips as a member of the Cherokee Travel Club. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, W.L. Tots Puckett, daughter, Judi McNeese, sister, Judy Barlow, and brother, Ben Lilley. She is survived by her daughters, Patsy Gray of Hattiesburg, Ann Dickinson of Tallahassee, FL, Betty Schroeder of Athens, GA, her grand children ,Kathy Potts of Jackson, John McNeese of Columbia, Alison Johnson of Cave Creek, AZ, Arthur Gray of Hoboken, NJ, Jessica Sperling , Buck Dickinson, and Cate Dickinson all of Tallahassee, FL, Matt Schroeder of Watkinsville, GA and Hailey Campbell of Athens, GA., seven great-grand children, and her brother, Jack Lilley of Clinton, Mississippi and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be John McNeese, Arthur Gray, Buck Dickinson, Matthew Schroeder, Tommy McNeese, and George Schroeder. Honorary pallbearers will be Rick Humphreys, Al Puckett, Willis Puckett, Greg Puckett, Penn Taylor, Dr. Frank Dailey and the old Geezers Fish Club. Memorials may be made to the Palmer Home Orphanage in Columbus.
