DR. KATHERINE G. LAMB Dr. Katherine Marie Grimmer Lamb, age 99 died Monday, August 15, 2011 at Generations of Vernon in Vernon, AL. Services will be held Wednesday August 17, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Burial with U.S. Navy Honors will be held at Friendship Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service at the funeral home. Katherine was born on May 22, 1912 in Paducah, KY to the late Hyland Burnette and Myrtle Fletcher Grimmer. She was a graduate of Tilghman High School in Paducah where she excelled in sports, especially basketball. Katherine was a United States Navy Veteran having served in WWII as a parachute rigger. She was married to John Robert Lamb in 1948 and moved to Columbus with him after graduating from the Southern School of Optometry in Memphis, TN. They set up their Optometry practice and worked side by side until his death in 1969. She was a long time member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where she served in various callings. After retirement, Granny or Aunt Kay, as she was affectionately called by the family loved to travel, sew, decorate, and be outside tending to flowers. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, John Edwin Lamb and her 7 siblings. Survivors include: Daughter: Anna K Williamson (Leslie) of Columbus, MS 4 Grandchildren: Scott (Sonya), Aaron (Leslie), Brent (Nicole), and Neil Williamson 6 Great Grandchildren: Chandler, Brantley, Clay, Brett, Dylan, and Brayden Pallbearers will be: Leslie, Scott, Aaron, Brent, Neil, and Brantley Williamson Honorary Pallbearers will be: Mike and Richard Stubblefield, Reed, Justin, and Ryan McKay, Joseph Johnson, Dr. Dick Owens, Dr. Jerry Turner, and the staff of Generations of Vernon
