BUFORD DOUGHTY Buford Earl Doughty, age 93, died Friday, June 07, 2013 at Ochsner Hospital-Kenner in Kenner, LA. Services will be held Saturday, June 15, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tim Williams officiating; burial will follow at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held from noon until service time at the funeral home. Mr. Doughty was born on Tuesday, March 30, 1920 in Fayette, AL to the late Richard Earl and Sarah Victoria Williamson Doughty. He was the youngest of twelve children, a retired electrician who loved life, family, socializing with friends, and, particularly, enjoyed exercising at the Y.M.C.A. Mr. Doughty was a lifetime deacon at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. Though he was usually a quiet man, he enjoyed long chats with close friends and family about many subjects, especially politics. One of the highlights of his years was the annual Doughty family reunions in Tuscaloosa, AL and previously the Williamson reunions in Columbus. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Helon Lorene Pennington Doughty; one grandson, James G. Doughty; his sisters Hastine Doughty Nation, Peal Doughty Shelton, Vergie Doughty Smith, Mexie Doughty Wells, Lucy Doughty Watson, Ida Belle Doughty Weathers, and Dicey Lee Doughty; and his brothers Dr. R. Eugene Doughty, Roy V. Doughty, G. Edward Doughty, Sr., and J. Floyd Doughty. Survivors include: One daughter: Rita Doughty Bezou (Mark), Kenner, LA. Three sons: William L. "Bill" Doughty, Parksley, VA; Dennis R. Doughty (Ginny), West Point, MS; and Kerry M. Doughty (Luzma), Huntsville, AL.. Seven Grandchildren: Allison Bezou Mikaelian, G.M. "Tre" Bezou, III, Doughty Bezou Kogel, Chris W. Doughty, Audrey Doughty Boenker, Michael A. Doughty, and Randy A. Doughty. Nine Great Grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
