Thelma Atkins Thelma Atkins, age 99, passed away on Mar 4, 2007. Thelma was born Sep 8, 1907 and grew up in Choctaw County Mississippi. She was a graduate of Bennet Academy and also attended MSU. She touched many young lives as a teacher in the Choctaw County and Crawford school systems. Thelma was also a part of many college girls lives as she worked at the Goose that is now known as the Hogarth Student Center at the W from 1960 to 1975 and later worked at Eggers Department Store. Thelma loved to sew and crochet. Mrs. Atkins was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Fred Atkins in 1958. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Jo Melnick and husband Bert of Niceville, FL.; grandchildren: Mary Beth Jernigan and husband Dave of Madison, AL., Cdr. Fred Melnick and wife Sue of Hanford, CA., Tim Melnick and wife Debra of Windermere, FL.; and great-grand children; Katelyn, Sarah, Justin, Ryan, Carly, Jenny, Rachel and Kate. Thelma was a member of Central United Methodist Church and Crawford United Methodist Church. Funeral Services will be conducted graveside at the Crawford Cemetery by Rev. Sam Hull at 11am Wed Mar 7, 2007. Memorial Funeral Home, Columbus Mississippi is entrusted with arrangements.
