Richard Morris Sobley Richard Morris "Happy" Sobley age 64, passed away Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at his home in Lowndes County surrounded by his family. Services will be at Memorial Funeral Home at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 19, 2009 with the Reverend Tommy Whaley officiating, burial will be at Friendship Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, December 18, 2009 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Mr. Sobley was born on July 11, 1945 to Avlee Rye Sobley and the late Charlie Albert Sobley. Affectionately known as Happy he graduated from New Hope High School and was an equipment operator for Sobley Excavating, Inc. in Columbus. He was a member of the Columbus Riding Club. Mr. Sobley is preceded in death by his father Charlie Albert Sobley and his brother Jimmy Dale Sobley. He is survived by his mother Avlee Rye Sobley, brothers Charles L. Sobley (Jean), George M. Sobley (Linda) and Mitchell D. Sobley (Susan), aunts Nadine Gates and Florentine Coleman, all of Columbus, MS, and a multitude of nieces and nephews and loving cousins. Richard loved his family, his friends and his horses. He was a Baptist. Pallbearers will be Wayne Eaves, Jimmy Nabors, Russell Sheffield, Jerry Wallace, C.J. Stockman, Wayne Blanton, W.J. Thrash, Lorenzo Harris, and Willard Permenter. Honorary pallbearers will be the employees of Sobley Excavating, Inc., members of the Columbus Riding Club, Dr.Wail Alnas and staff, the nurses of Heart to Heart Hospice, Amy White and Pam Eads. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1380 Livingston Lane, Jackson, MS 39213.
