Jewel Dean Dodd

Jewel Dean Adams Dodd, age 88 of Columbus, MS passed away Saturday, May 29, 2010, just 19 days before her 89th birthday, in Columbus, MS. Viisitation will be held Thursday, June 3, 2010 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Home. Private graveside services will be held later at Friendship Cemetery in Columbus. Born Friday, June 17, 1921 in Vernon, AL, she was the daughter of the late Joe Quincy Adams and the late Virgie Lowell Strawbridge Adams. Mrs. Dodd was employed by F.W. Woolworth Corp. and retired in July 1983. She was a faithful member of Immanuel Baptist Church, where she served her Lord in many ways. She worked in the nursery and preschool departments, served in Missions Friends, Women's Ministry and was a G.A. Leader. She was also a member of the Women's Ministry at First Baptist Church, where she visited often and made many dear friends. She is survived by her daughter, Agnes D. Webb (Bill) and son-in-law Jim Novak , both of Columbus, sisters, Opal Malone of Sturgis, MS and Joan Ingram of Virginia Beach, VA.and sister-in-law Joan Adams of Hamilton, Ms. She is also survived by her grandchildren Mark Webb (Angela), Pinetops, NC, Robyn Buxton (Michael), Columbus, Ms, Michael Novak, Manassas, VA, and David Novak (Julia) Chesterfield, VA, ; her great grandchildren Chad and Kristin Webb, Pinetops, NC , Brandon Novak (Alissa), Lake City, FL, Hunter Webb Buxton, Columbus, Ms and Alecxander and Jonathan Novak, Chesterfield, VA and great-great grandchild Peyton Novak, Lake City, FL as well as many nieces and nephews. She also leaves dear friends Tommie Fumiko Howren, Yoshiko Price, and many wonderful and dear friends at Immanuel Baptist and First Baptist. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Frelan M. Dodd, her daughter Janice Dodd Novak, her sister Kathleen Sims and her brothers Clifton, Lowell, Jody and Bobby Adams.
