Louise Grant Simpson

Louise H. Grant Simpson died September 15, 2012 at her residence in Kolola Springs, MS at the age of 94. She was born in Malvern, Arkansas to DeAlton John and Olive Ossie Horst. Services will be held Tuesday September 18, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Don Harding officiating. Burial will follow at Egger Cemetery in Caledonia. Visitation will be Monday, September 17 from 6-8 pm at the funeral home. Mrs. Louise lived most of her life in Lowndes County and was a member of Kolola Springs Baptist Church where she served as church treasurer for many years. She was a devoted wife and mother who led a Godly life with compassion for her family as well as her neighbors and friends. Mrs. Louise taught children Sunday School classes at church for many years and helped in the nursery in her later years. She would always lend a helping hand to neighbors who were sick. Early in life she learned how to sew and can fruits and vegetables and was very frugal with Gods blessings. She was a homemaker who became well known for her caramel cakes and cheese straws. Louise was a seamstress who loved to sew for her children and grandchildren. She and her husband, Hoyle Grant, owned and operated Hoyle R. Grant General Merchandise as well as Grants Nursery. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Hoyle R. Grant and Houston Simpson, her parents, two brothers, Albert Horst and Howard Horst, and one sister, Marie Mattison. She is survived by her children, Myra Grant Schamel (Jack), Dorothy Grant Griffin (Bill), Michael Grant (Shirley), and Mary Edith Grant Jordan (Robin), one sister, Cora Mae Harris, 15 grandchildren, Erin Grant, Susan Reese, Jacqueline Dicicco, Vickie Sample, Cheryl Shepherd, Carl Griffin, Carol Griffin, Chris Griffin, Cam Moody, Andy Grant, Eric Grant, Alex Grant, Heather Starns, Heath Jordan, and Haley Rone, 24 great grandchildren, and 5 great, great grandchildren Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Carl and Chris Griffin, Andy, Eric, and Alex Grant, and Heath Jordan. Honorary pallbearers are members of Kolola Springs Baptist Church. Her family would like to thank her caregivers and Baptist Hospice for their love and care during her illness.
