Tommy Wingo

TOMMY WINGO Thomas Wayne (Tommy) Wingo died Thursday, August 16, at Dugan Memorial Center in West Point after a long struggle with Parkinsons. He was 79 years old. Born in Ecru, Mississippi in 1928, Tommys family moved to Columbus in 1944, where he lived the remainder of his life. He joined the Navy at age 17 and was a veteran of the Korean War. He retired from Nexair, formerly Standard Welders Supply, after 40 years of service. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints in Columbus. He was active in the Columbus Host Lions Club, Lake Norris Fishing club and Hairston Bend Hunting Club where he held numerous elected offices over the years. Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Melton Wingo and Ferol Robbins Wingo, and by his brother Lamar. Tommy is survived by his wife of 56 years, Irene Pettit Wingo, five children: Jean Kyle of Clinton, MS; Lynn Logan and her husband Kim of Fancy Gap VA, Jerry Wingo and his wife Cathi of Tampa, FL, Randy Wingo and his wife , Karen of Welty, OK and Sherry Honsinger and her husband Bob of Columbus, one brother Roland Wingo of Hebron MS. He also leaves 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Services will be held at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, Monday August 20 at 10:00 a.m.with Bishop Robert Honsinger officiating. Family visitation will be held Sunday evening, August 19, form 6 until 9 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Scott Honsinger, Christopher Logan, Greg Wingo, Stan Carter, and Brandon Wingo. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy West, Bobby Gale, B.A. Atkins, Howard Sharp, Tom Yeatman, and Charlie Clarkson. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to: Dugan Memorial Home P.O.
