Michael Lee Tate, age 65, died Friday, April 4, 2014 at Baptist Memorial Hospital " Golden Triangle in Columbus. Memorial Funeral Home will be in charge of his arrangements. Services will be Monday, April 7, 2014 at 10:00 AM at Caledonia United Pentecostal Church, with Rev. Grant Mitchell officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, April 6, 2014 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Home. Interment with Military Honors will immediately follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
The son of the late Clark and Beatrice McDaniel Tate, Michael was born September 10, 1948 in Columbus. He attended S. D. Lee Senior High School and received his GED in March, 1964. He enlisted in the U. S. Navy in March 1965 and was honorably discharged in December 1967. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, receiving the Vietnam Service Medal and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He attended Caledonia United Pentecostal Church and was a co-owner of a Trailer Park on Blackcreek Rd. He was also a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Mr. Tate is survived by his wife Jeanie Tate and son Michael L. Tate, Jr., both of Columbus, his brothers Sidney Ray Tate of Atlanta, GA and Ronnie Gene Tate of Columbus. He is also survived by stepsons John Baker and Paul Baker (Tammy)and stepdaughters Goldie Neal and Kristy Schlinker (Danny), all of Little Rock, AR, 10 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, a niece Tina Mussellwhite, nephews Stacy Tate and Scott Tate and three great nieces.
Pallbearers will be Richard Garmon, Jerry Gibson, Clanton Johnson, Paul Baker, John Baker and Danny Schlinker. Honorary pallbearers will be member s of the American Legion and the V. F. W.
