CHARLES AARON FERGUSON Charles Ferguson passed away on July 19, 2012, at Noland Acute Care Hospital in Tuscaloosa, AL. He was ninety-four years old. His service will be held at Memorial Funeral Home on Monday, July 23, 2012 at 11:00 AM with Dr. Jonathan Speegle officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 until service time. Mr. Ferguson was born on August 23, 1917, in Vardaman, MS, to the late Aaron Levi and Mary Alice Evans Ferguson. After his family moved to California, his youth years were growing up in Huntington Beach where he attended middle school. His family later moved to Columbus and he graduated from S.D. Lee High School in 1936. In 1939 he married his high school sweetheart, Annie Pearl Goolsby. Their marriage lasted sixty-nine years. During World War II, Charles was an Army defense civilian aircraft maintenance contract employee at the Columbus, MS, and Greenville, SC, Army Flying Schools. After the war he was a salesman in the automotive parts business in Columbus for thirty-five years. During this time he and his wife reared four children: Lynda, Bob, Jane, and Richard. After retirement Charles and Annie Pearl traveled extensively pulling their travel trailer through the United States, Canada, and Nova Scotia with their friends Thomas and Minnie McCrary. He also raised beef cattle for many years on his family's Lowndes County farm. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Annie Pearl, and his sister Rubye Shields. Survivors include his four children: Lynda Striepe, Robert C. Ferguson (Charlene), Jane Clark, and Richard Ferguson (Jeanne), eight grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Billy Price, Scott Striepe, Zach Brown, Bob Herron, Robert Ferguson, and Thomas Ferguson. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Moss, Gerald Scallions, Ben Hardin, and Dr. Prentiss Gordon, Sr. Memorials may be sent to Central Methodist Church, 1201 College Street, Columbus, MS 39701
